The CKI Conference of RWTH Aachen University is the yearly opportunity for a strategic meeting between Siemens and the university. We are happy to again present the chance to meet decision makers from both Siemens and RWTH Aachen University in an interactive and collaborative environment.
On November 21, 2019, around 110 RWTH professors, Siemens experts and RWTH Aachen students as well as start-ups from the ecosystem of the university met at Campus Melaten to learn more about "Decarbonization meets Digitalization - energy systems getting more flexible". In workshops, on stage and in dialogue, the participants discussed the future of the energy sector.
This year, our outstanding keynotes discussed the topics of Hydrogen Economy and what needs to be done in order to include hydrogen into our grids, the impact of blockchain technology on our energy markets as well as the potential of building data with respect to decarbonization.
We had a big change this year in the management level of the CKI: Starting now, Prof. Malte Brettel, Vice-Rector for Industry and Business Relations, will take over as CKI Director and was welcomed by Dr. Natascha Eckert into his new role supported by a very nice video message from Siemens CTO Dr. Roland Busch.
During the morning of the conference, 6 start-ups presented their extraordinary business ideas and technologies that will improve certain aspects of specific industrial areas as well as aspects of our daily life. Congratulations to the winning teams from S O NAH and AI-Bat who will now participate in the Siemens Start-up Interchange Program for the next 3 months.
The Technical Workshop was split up into two rounds: whereas the first round connected the trends and needs of the energy sector, the second one used the combined results to discuss them further with respect to "business", "technology" and "regulations". Those results might end up in new start-up ideas, research proposals or might be used as suggestions towards our government.
The Labtour visiting the Innovation Factory as well as the laboratories of the IFHT and the ISEA presented some more impressive innovation within the RWTH Aachen.
Numerous conversations during the breaks lead to new approaches for cooperation that we anticipate with excitement!
