At RWTH Aachen, there is the first Siemens MindSphere Lounge at a university in Germany.
- Latest Internet of Things platform "MindSphere" integrated into research and teaching
- Co-working on the Internet of Things - Lounge is also a development laboratory
- Cooperation promotes research for Industry 4.0 in a worldwide network
It was set up on the campus of RWTH Aachen University as part of a worldwide network to promote the idea of the "Internet of Things" (IoT) together with students, research groups, and Siemens experts. MindSphere is Siemens' open IoT operating system that, for example, connects machines and uses the wealth of data from the Internet of Things with in-depth analysis. The state-of-the-art lounge is a modern working space that Siemens and RWTH not only use for joint research, but also for talent promotion and global networking.
Located in the photonics cluster of the Aachen campus, an innovation center part of the "Engineering Valley", the MindSphere Lounge is not only a co-working space but also a research laboratory. In an open-space concept, the lounge offers around ten working places for students in the offices of Siemens Manufacturing Center of Excellence. The creative and open interior design gives the lounge a suitable start-up character. The actual work in the environment strengthens this perception with ready-to-use MindSphere hardware and software, demonstrations at showcases and regular events for training with MindSphere, promote cooperation in the research and development of both Siemens AG and RWTH Aachen.
The MindSphere Lounge is part of the international MindSphere Innovation Network (MINe). Founded in the UK, the MindSphere Lounge has its roots at the University of Sheffield. The RWTH is the first university in Germany to follow this concept. The aim of the international network is to bundle universities and their research capabilities and promote the research and development of innovative solutions in the domain of IoT.
